The Jesuits in the seven Provinces and five regions of the Assistancy number 1686. The Province of Indonesia is the largest with 350 members followed by the Philippines with 305, Japan with 234, China with 187, Australia with 154 and Vietnam with 125.

Fr. Tom Steinbugler marked his 60th year in the Society last July 30. Congratulations, Fr Tom!

There will be a consultation of youth/young adult workers during the MAGiS08 in Sydney, Australia.

The Third Edition of the East Asian Theological Encounter Program will begin on July 27 until August 26. It will be held at the Seven Fountains Spirituality Center, Chiangmai, Thailand. It is under the directorship of Fr John Shea (NYK), with Fr Michael Amaladoss (MDU), Director of the DiNobili Institute in Chennai, as the major Tutor.

Fr Mark Raper came to the Office to chair his first Consultants' meeting last May 21–22. It was a friendly interaction in preparation for the coming Major Superiors' Meeting. The group had lunch together on May 22, to gratefully say goodbye to two consultants who had served so well: Fr Priyono Marwan (IDO) and Fr Matthias Chae (KOR).

In the last few weeks, Fr Bill McGarry (MIC), Assistant to the EAO Tertian Instructor, and Fr Tom Steinbugler (PHI), JCEAO Treasurer, had undergone some medical procedures and tests. Both are now recovering. Your prayers would help hasten their getting well.

• Oct 29–Nov 4: Gathering of Jesuit Commission on Indigenous Peoples, Davao City, Philippines. Fr Nicolas joined the group on Nov 4.

• Nov 19–30: Fr Nicolás goes to Rome for the GC 35 Preparatory Committee Meeting

• Oct 23 – 26: Fr Nicolás travels to Beijing to attend the meeting the Board of Trustees of The Beijing Center. He proceeds to Bangkok to join the Jesuits of Thailand region in their preparation for GC35.
• Oct 27 – 28: Joint meeting of EAO Consultants, Secretaries and Directors of Work - EAPI Seminar Room, Quezon City, Philippines.
• Nov 15: EAPI Board of Trustees Meeting - Quezon City, Philippines.
• Nov 16: Consultation on Social Apostolate - JCEAO Office.

Fr Tom Steinbugler left September 2 for Seoul, South Korea to attend the EAO Treasurers’ Meeting from September 3–7. On the way home, he passed by Bangkok in his capacity as revisor of Thailand’s arca. He arrived in Manila on September 9.

Fr Adolfo Nicolás goes on an eight-day retreat from September 13–22.

A joint meeting of EAO Consultants, Secretaries and Directors of Work will be held On October 27–28.

Fr Bernard Chu was EAO Conference President way back in 1978-80. He is now battling cancer in Taiwan.
