Newly appointed Jesuit Conference for East Asia and Oceania (JCEAO) President Fr. Mark Raper, SJ bikes around the Ateneo de Manila campus and understandably, speaks with a distinctive Australian twang. Father Raper, in an interview with The Windhover's Frank Savadera, SJ speaks to us about his experience of the 35th General Congregation, his work with the refugees and the evolving challenges being faced by the entire East Asia and Oceania Assistancy.
November 3–14: Visitation with Arrupe scholastics. Some of these days will also be spent on visitations with EAPI Jesuit community and staff.
November 14–16: Talk to the theologians at the LHS triduum; presides at their renovation mass in the morning of November 17.
November 17–25: Travels to Phnom Penh in the afternoon of Nov. 17 for the Regional Meeting of the Jesuits in Cambodia on November 18–21. Proceeds to Nagasaki, Japan for the Beatification of Martyrs on November 24.
October 4–5: Meeting of Consult, Secretaries and Directors of Work.
October 5–6: Meeting of President with Consultors.
October 14–22: Fr Mark travels to China to attend The Beijing Center (TBC) Board Meeting, TBC 2nd Decade Celebration, TBC Conference on the Qing Dynasty, and a Meeting on Higher Education in China
October 26–Nov 1: Fr Mark travels to Bangkok for Thailand's Regional Gathering
He left as the President of the JCEAO and came back as Fr. General. So, when Fr Adolfo Nicolás visited us last March 14 – 23, we welcome him with much joy and we were deeply honoured when he shared his Roman experiences. In the midst of his cleaning up his office and packing his things, he graciously spent time with the various communities in the Manila area: EAPI, Arrupe International Residence, Loyola House of Studies, Xavier School.
